Jozani Forest is a national park located in the southern part of Zanzibar. It covers an area of 50 km2 and is the only national park on the island. The forest is a protected nature reserve that was established in 1960 to conserve the remaining tropical forest on Zanzibar.

Overview

The Jozani Forest tour is a guided tour is that offers you the big range of plants and animal species. It features red mahoganies, sycamores, palms, mangroves, and ferns. Over 40 species of birds, 100 species of butterflies, various reptiles including geckos, chameleons, and snakes, as well as mammals such as squirrels, antelopes, and the iconic red colobus monkeys can be found in the forest.

Jozani Forest is the presence of the endangered Zanzibar red colobus monkeys. These monkeys are native to Zanzibar and are known for their sociable nature, living in large groups within the forest. There are only around 2300 individuals left in the world, with a significant population residing in Jozani Forest.

In jozani forest their are also the mangroves that consist of different species, including black, red, and white mangroves. Each species has distinct characteristics and traits that differentiate them from one another. Despite their differences, these mangrove species collectively contribute to the rich biodiversity of the forest.
